Sure, we’re calling this mixtape the sell-out mixtape. Why? Because all of the songs on it are songs featured in at least one popular commercial. However, I don’t think any of these bands have sold out. Who’s to say that sharing your music through another mode of transport is selling out? Even if they are making boat loads of money doing it. Here’s the way I look at it, if my friend is a starving artist, waiting tables to pay the bills while striving to  become a movie director perhaps, and someone comes along willing to pay him for his work, I would be balls over walls happy for him. Sure he may love the movie business regardless of what money is made, but if his passion becomes his job, that’s awesome. So, think of the musicians next time you say to your friend when you are watching TV, “Aw man, I can’t believe they used this Vampire Weekend song in this commercial. It ruins the song…” It doesn’t ruin the song, it just means more people are getting the chance to appreciate it. What’s wrong with that?

Now that I’m done with my rant, I would like to give a shout-0ut to the man behind the idea. Frank Awiglia has been telling me to make this playlist for awhile and many of the songs on it are at his suggestion, therefore I am granting him curating credit for this mixtape. Thanks Mr. Awiglia for being a fan from the beginning.
