6. The Griswolds – Be Impressive

The Griswolds’ only single of 2014 “Beware the Dog” is catchy as all hell, but it wasn’t until I heard their cover of Vance Joy’s “Riptide” that I knew I had to dive deeper into the Australian quartet’s music catalogue. Hearing them perform a live version of an already hit song and somehow making it sound even better than the original is not something to shrug your shoulders at.

After hearing that Triple J performance, I made my way through their Be Impressive release a few times in a matter of just an afternoon. What I heard were uncanny good vocals and infectious melodies accented by catchy hooks. As mentioned above, “Beware the Dog” uses the classic pop formula of writing a hook that you can’t get out of your head no matter how hard you try.

If you frequent the site you already know Australian pop/rock groups make appearances on MTIB on a regular basis. In fact, The Griswolds debut EP made its way onto our Top EPs list just last year. With a successful EP and album already under their belt, the boys from down under are primed for a huge 2015 in the states. They have a massive nationwide tour with Walk the Moon scheduled for the upcoming year and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them pop up at a few festivals along the way as well.  – Quinn
