Sean McPherson is probably most well known for his long time tenure as the bassist for Heiruspecs, a hip-hop collective out of St. Paul that’s been going strong for well over a decade.  But he wears more than just that one hat.  He’s part of the backing band for Doomtree’s Dessa, he’s a founding member of Trivia Mafia, an instructor at McNally Smith College of Music, and last but not least, he is the brains behind Twinkie Jiggles Broken Orchestra.

The ‘orchestra’ takes many forms and can be seen featuring different combinations consisting of Sean, fellow Heiruspecs band mate DeVon Gray (DVRG), vocalist Ashley Gold, Joey Van Phillips, Greg Reese, and Luke Anderson, as well as various other guests.

The Orchestra really doesn’t mimic anything Dessa nor Heiruspecs.  It’s a side of Sean that, if you haven’t gone to any of the group’s shows over the past years, you probably didn’t know he had.  Many of the songs are mellow, down to earth jams with beautiful vocals. Lyrics often talk about love and relationships but do so in a non-cliche way. Check out “Hi, My Name is Ana” to see what I mean.

The debut album, Too Big to Fail, was released earlier this month.  You can hear it in its entirety below.  Give it a listen, and if you like what you hear, or just like supporting local acts in general, follow the link to Twinkie’s Bandcamp page and shell out that ten dollars of pocket change you’ve got laying around.

Also, be sure to check these guys out live at Icehouse MPLS on February 7th for their album release party that will also be featuring an opening set from Greg Grease.  If you’re looking for tickets or more information, follow the link here over to the event page.
