Last Friday, Fitz and the Tantrums came to Minneapolis to perform at First Avenue, and with them they brought energy-infused, neo-soul rhythms. Backdropped by the electronic glow of a giant re-creation of their most recent album’s signature heart, Michael Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs kept the packed First Avenue crowd movin’ all night. As Fitzpatrick’s smooth, bluesy voice rang throughout the venue, Noelle moved around the stage with grace and vitality. That night, First Avenue shone purple and blue with lighting that matched the soul of the music. The hues helped evoke feelings of love which the band had elected as the theme of the night. Fitz and the Tantrums kept the tempo up all night, ending with a two song encore and a burst of confetti which left the crowd roaring. There weren’t too many folks who didn’t leave the venue without a smile.
