Best Album of 2015 To: Put On When You Feel The World Conspiring Against You And Need A Soundtrack To Get Your Back

First Bite: “Chains of Love”

“It’s a Dan Auerbach side project,” said a fellow music enthusiast, putting The Arcs on my musical radar. When I think of side projects, I usually think “weird distillation”: there will be touchstone moments of the artist’s origin, some fun experimenting, and hopefully the birth of a new identity. Yours, Dreamily doesn’t disappoint. It’s the moments of exploration that leave behind the well trodden ground that prove the most exciting. With eight albums of history between them, the Black Key’s come with a lot of baggage. Not here. The Arc’s debut feature lengths arrives like a Black Keys’ slow-motion fever dream you won’t want to escape.
