Best Album of 2015 To: Put On When You Need To Get Off The Couch And Rally For Friday Night

First Bite: “Give It All”

In the context of the catchy, radio-ready “Mountain at My Gates,” I did not expect the opener and title track to kick me in the teeth. With heavy guitar bashing and lead singer Yannis Philippakis shouting “When I see a man, I see a liar!” What Went Down exclaimed: “buckle up!” Maybe a more seasoned Foals fan could see this coming, but the versatility of these guys is a real pleasure to experience. Two songs later, their raw power has retreated to reveal the magnetic tenderness of Give It All — the bringer of balance and keystone of the album. A graceful narrative follows, filled with lightness and depth. Speak softly and carry a big stick, or shout loudly and use chopsticks?
