First Bite: “The Night Josh Tillman Came To Our House”

This degree of sarcasm seems to always be paired with a pound of cynicism. It’s tough to discern where truth ends and hyperbole begins although I’m sure Josh Tillman (Father John) would argue the point is so defined. As someone who considers myself more optimistic than not, I’m slightly troubled by my affection for this album. Best I can tell, it’s more than the hilarity of specific perspectives as seen or the creativity in expressing thouse perspectives. It’s Tillman’s commitment to the character of Father John Misty. It’s the origin and potential ramifications of the character’s creation. Then again, maybe life isn’t meant to be taken so seriously. Maybe, that’s the point. Either way, I Love You, Honeybear is yet another compelling chapter in the tale of Father John Misty. Even more confident and focused than the first.
